Lista dos Anelídeos (Annelida)

A diversidade das minhocas (Annelida) é aqui compilada, em adição aos grupos de animais terrestres listados em detalhe noutros capítulos deste livro (Platyhelminthes, Nematoda, Mollusca, Arthropoda, Chordata). Com base na recente lista de espécies animais terrestres da Europa, projecto “Fauna Europaea” (http:// www.faunaeur.org), listam-se 21 espécies de anelí deos terrestres. É apresentada a distribuição das espécies ou subespécies nas nove ilhas dos Açores, usando-se a seguinte simbologia: COR – Corvo; FLO – Flores; FAI – Faial; PIC – Pico; GRA – Graciosa; SJG – São Jorge; TER – Terceira; SMG – São Miguel; SMR – Santa Maria. Quando não se conhece a distribuição de uma espécie por ilha, indica-se apenas a sua presença nos Açores (AZ). Na maior parte dos casos tal deve-se a registos muito antigos ou então à indicação da ocorrência das espécies no arquipélago contida na “Fauna Europaea”, mas sem indicação da literatura de suporte.ABSTRACT: In addition to the terrestrial animal Phyla already listed in other chapters of this book (Platyhelminthes, Nematoda, Mollusca, Arthropoda, Chordata), here we compiled a preliminary species list of Annelida. Based on the recent list of European terrestrial species, project “Fauna Europaea” (http://www.faunaeur.org), 21 species of Annelida are listed. For the distribution of all species and subspecies in the nine Azorean islands we use the following abbreviations: COR – Corvo; FLO – Flores; FAI – Faial; PIC – Pico; GRA – Graciosa; SJG – São Jorge; TER – Terceira; SMG – São Miguel; SMR – Santa Maria. When no information concerning island occurrence was available only archipelago occurrence is given (AZ). In most cases it corresponds to old records, as well as to references to the Azores as found in “Fauna Europaea” with no indication to any literature supporting these findings

Estudo preliminar dos coleópteros (Insecta, Coleoptera) da Ilha das Flores.

IV Expedição Científica do Departamento de Biologia – Flores 1989.An account is given of the species of Coleoptera (Insecta, Coleoptera) collected during the "Flores 89 Scientific Expedition", in July 1989. A preliminary list of the species collected is given. Six species are reported as new for Flores and one for Corvo. A checklist of Coleoptera from Flores and Corvo is also given. We also point out the occurrence of each species on the other Azorean island and Macaronesian archipelagos, their zoogeographic distribution and the contributions of several authors over the last seven years

Apresenta-se uma lista preliminar dos Filos Nematoda, Annelida e Chordata terrestres dos Açores. Com base na recente lista de espécies animais terrestres da Europa, projecto “Fauna Europaea” (http://www.faunaeur.org), listam-se 80 espécies de nemátodos e 21 espécies de anelídeos terrestres. As cerca de 49 espécies de vertebrados (Chordata) listados correspondem às espécies que se reproduzem nos Açores.ABSTRACT: A preliminary list of the Phyla Nematoda, Annelida and Chordata was compiled. Based on the recent list of European terrestrial species, project “Fauna Europaea” (http://www.faunaeur.org), 80 species of Nematoda and 21 species of Annelida are listed. Introduction

Neste capítulo apresentamos uma descrição sumária dos vários capítulos desta obra. A informação presente reflecte por um lado o objectivo de listar toda a biodiversidade terrestre dos Açores (Capítulo 4), mas igualmente apresentar uma síntese da diversidade específica nos diferentes grupos taxonómicos (Capítulo 2). Desenvolvem-se igualmente alguns aspectos importantes sobre a utilização de modelos para predizer a distribuição espacial das espécies (Capítulo 3). Todos os dados obtidos são carregados no Programa ATLANTIS Tierra 2.0, que se espera constitua uma ferramenta muito útil na gestão da conservação da natureza nas ilhas da Macaronésia. Este livro apresenta a primeira lista exaustiva dos organismos vivos dos habitats terrestres dos Açores, o que constitui uma fonte de informação muito importante para as diferentes áreas do conhecimento, tais como a taxonomia, ecologia, agricultura, silvicultura e gestão da conservação da natureza.ABSTRACT: In this chapter we present an overview of the several chapters of the book. The information presented in this work reflects the dual goal of listing most of the Azorean terrestrial biodiversity (Chapter 4) and also of presenting a synthesis of the patterns of the diversity in the different taxonomic groups (Chapter 2). The importance of using GIS environmental information to predict the spatial distribution and the habitat suitability of species (Chapter 3) is also developed. The software ATLANTIS Tierra 2.0 is described as a promising tool to be used in the conservation management of the Macaronesian islands. This book presents the first exhaustive compilation of the terrestrial organisms of the Azores which will help many people working in the areas of taxonomy, ecology, agriculture, forestry and nature conservation management

Distribution and abundance of arthropod species in pasture communities of three Azorean islands (Santa Maria, Terceira and Pico)

This work provides evidence that the "hollow curve" is a consistent pattern in the range size distribution of taxonomic and ecological groups of arthropod pasture dwelling species. Many of the inconsistent results relating range size to herbivores diet breadth are probably due to historical constraints in the colonization of the islands and particular characteristics of the habitats studied (e.g. types of resources available). The positive relationship between range size and abundance may be explained by the "resource usage model". However, the slope of the regression line relating distribution to abundance was similar for different groups which suggests there is no difference in the way that the species’ local abundance scales with distribution in the four assemblages of species studied and that there is a close relationship between the trophic groups studied. This suggests that the “resource availability model” could be the explanation for the distribution and abundance of pasture spider and insect species. More work needs to be conducted in order to evaluate the relationship between diet breadth, habitat specialization and range size in the islands

Apresenta -se uma lista preliminar dos filos Platyhelminthes e Annelida terrestres dos arquipélagos da Madeira e Selvagens. Com base na recente lista de espécies animais terrestres da Europa, projecto “Fauna Europaea” (http://www.faunaeur.org), listam -se sete espécies de platelmintes e 36 espécies de anelídeos terrestres. Em adição aos grupos de animais listados em detalhe em outros capítulos deste livro (Nematoda, Mollusca, Arthropoda, Chordata), a diversidade de dois outros grupos de animais (Platyhelminthes, Annelida) é aqui compilada. Com base na recente lista de espécies animais terrestres da Europa, projecto “Fauna Europaea” (http://www.faunaeur. org), e ainda nos trabalhos de Hughes et al. (1998) e Hughes (2003), listam -se sete espécies de platelmintes e 36 espécies de anelídeos terrestres. É ainda de assinalar a presença na ilha da Madeira de uma espécie endémica de planária terrestre (Platyhelminthes) (ver Sluys 1983). Esperamos que numa próxima edição desta obra possamos apresentar uma análise detalhada sobre a distribuição e estatutos de colonização dos Platyhelminthes e Annelida dos arquipélagos da Madeira e Selvagens.ABSTRACT: A preliminary list of the Phyla Platyhelminthes and Annelida was compiled. (1998) and Hughes (2003), seven species of Platyhelminthes and 36 species of Annelida are listed. Also of note is the presence of an endemic species of land planarians (Platyhelminthes) in Madeira (see Sluys 1983). In a future edition of this book we hope to present detailed data on the distribution and colonisation status of the Platyhelminthes and Annelida of the Madeira and Selvagens archipelagos
